Achievements during F.Y. 2023-24

1. Reconstruction of Balole Syphon

• Balole syphon located in Balole Nallah near village Dharap at RD 34400 m of Main Ranbir Canal was constructed in the year 1967.
• It has a discharge carrying capacity of 742 cusecs and provides irrigation water supply to a number of villages in R.S.Pura, Suchetgarh, Arnia, Pandorian and part of Bishnah area in district Jammu, thereby covering a CCA of 22128 hectares.
• Balole syphon was completely damaged in middle portion due to flash floods in Balole Nallah on 11/08/2022 and 15/08/2022.
• Balole syphon was temporarily restored in a record time of 22 days by way of laying 02 no., M.S. pipe conduits of length 33 m, 2.0 m dia. each in the central damaged portion connected with the left-over portion of the syphon structure in order to restore the irrigation water supply temporarily to the farmers of R.S. Pura, Suchetgarh, Arnia, Pandorian and part of Bishnah, thereby saving paddy crops worth Rs. 200 crores.
• The temporarily restored syphon may not sustain the fury of flood of even mild nature and may get damaged during the next flood season.<
• The work “Reconstruction of Balole Syphon at RD 34400 m of Main Ranbir Canal near Village Dharap” was allotted to M/s P&R Infra Projects Ltd. for an amount of Rs. 9.29 crores.
• The scope of work listed out realignment and reconstruction of Balole Syphon well below the scour depth using the retrieved pipes from dismantling of temporarily restored syphon thereby effecting a saving to the exchequer.
• Due to lack of time, M.S. pipes were used for the re-construction of canal syphon as the syphon will be ready after the last M.S. pipe is installed.
• The work for reconstruction of Balole syphon was started on 01/07/2023 and irrigation water supply was released on 07/04/2024.

2. Trial pondage in Tawi Barrage

• Tawi Barrage project, conceived in the year 2010, envisages to construct gated structure across two channels of River Tawi, namely “Nikki Tawi” and “Waddi Tawi” located at Belicharana about 1 Km downstream of Main Tawi Bridge at Bikram Chowk.
• M/s DMR Hydroengineering & Infrastructures Ltd. was engaged as consultant on 23-03-2021 through e-Tendering process.
• The work for construction of Tawi Barrage was allotted to M/s P&R Infraprojects Ltd. on 07-09-2022 for an amount of Rs. 49.87 cr.
• As all the gates stood installed on Waddi Tawi side, trial pondage of Tawi Barrage was conducted on 29/11/2023 by lowering the gates on Waddi Tawi side and plugging the gates on Nikki Tawi side by way of constructing temporary earthen bund near right abutment of Nikki Tawi & plugging other bays by installing suitable elements/stop logs.
• After achieving trial pondage of 1.5 m near gates in Waddi Tawi, the discharge of river Tawi was regulated through under sluices on left bank of Nikki Tawi which were kept open to pass the normal discharge of the river.
• Actual pondage of 3.62 m near gates shall be achieved after commissioning of the project.
